Whether this is your first trip to Santorini or you're returning for another memorable visit, you can take home the perfect souvenir. A bottle of wine or a painting will remind you of your time on the island, but there's no better keepsake than a professional portrait of you in Santorini.

Imagine wearing a stunning silk gown with a long train that catches the sea breeze and flows in beautiful, rippling shapes, with Santorini behind you. The whole island is beautiful, but some places are especially good for photos. Here are my favorites.

Imerovigli

The village of Imerovigli climbs like a staircase along the curve of the caldera cliff. Its whitewashed walls reflect the bright sunshine and its blue domes stand out against the sky. This classic Santorini village is the perfect backdrop for photos at any time of day.

Pose on volcanic stone steps with the village dropping away below you and the breathtaking sea view behind, or keep the iconic village buildings in the background as a focal point. The contrast between the billowing fabric and the straight lines of the buildings makes for striking photos.

The viewpoint near Pyrgos

The highlight of any visit to Santorini, and literally the island's highest point, the area around Pyrgos has incredible views across the length and breadth of Santorini, with the beautiful Cycladic architecture of the historic Profitis Ilias Monastery. Photos here capture the best of Santorini in one frame: the charming buildings, the sparkling sea and the shape of the island itself.

Even at this height, the silk train of the dress catches the cool sea breeze, for spectacular photos with views across Santorini as far as the eye can see.

Vlychada Beach

With rocky cliffs carved by the waves and wind into a magnificent backdrop for its dramatic black sand, Vlychada Beach is the perfect setting for ethereal photos. Where a village like Imerovigli offers architecture, Vlychada is the pure, elemental beauty of nature. The stark cliffs, the simple colors of the background, the bright sunshine and the sparkling water all work together to keep the focus on you.

Oia village

Perched on the edge of the caldera, Oia seems suspended between the sea and the sky. Its buildings follow the curves of the cliff, tracing the ancient remains of the volcano. Photoshoots here make the most of the fascinating lines and curves of the village architecture, with its blue domes and whitewashed walls.

Oia is famous for its sunsets, but the light is stunning at any time of day. Photos here benefit from the fresh sea breeze, which creates spectacular effects with a long silk train like those available to rent from Flying Dress Photo.

When is the best time for a photoshoot?

Both morning and evening shoots have their advantages. On clear days, the light in Santorini changes from soft dawn light to strong midday sun to the warm, golden light of sunset, and the light will strengthen the mood you want in your photos. For example, if you want a bold, powerful photo, a red or yellow flying dress in the brilliant late-morning or midday sun has unmistakable grandeur. Bright light also shows off the deep blue sky and makes every color stand out.

Bright light has its downsides too. It reflects off the whitewashed buildings and can make it hard to keep your eyes fully open. If the light gets too strong, you can add sunglasses to your outfit.

As the sun gets lower, the shadows soften and the light turns into what photographers prize most: the golden hour. Your photos will have a gentler tone, and with the setting sun on your face and the caldera behind you, the mood becomes magical.

Choosing the right photographer

To find the most beautiful places on the island for your photoshoot and make the most of the light, you really need a local's knowledge. You'll also want a photographer who listens to what you want from your photos and works with you to make it happen. I've lived on Santorini for much of my life, and I love discovering the secret places that most visitors never see.

My experience photographing flying dresses helps me find the best angles and light to make your photos stand out. I'll work closely with you to create magical photos that will be the perfect reminder of your time in Santorini. You can book a Flying Dress photoshoot through Greece Holiday Tours.
