What to expect
Some of Santorini’s scenery can only really be seen from the air. A flight gives you an overview of the whole island, with archaeological sites below and other Cyclades islands on the horizon. It also makes a memorable surprise gift.
20-minute flight
Take off from Akrotiri in the south and fly to the caldera, the remains of the ancient volcano. Follow the cliffs to Fira, the island’s main town, and the Old Port with its zigzag path up the cliff. Continue to Oia, then turn south past the active volcano of Nea Kameni and back to Akrotiri.
30-minute flight
From Akrotiri, fly north along the caldera to Fira and the Old Port, then to Nea Kameni. Head west to Thirassia and its half-moon bay, then on to Oia’s blue domes. Follow the west coast, cross inland over Pyrgos, and return along the south coast past Red Beach and the Akrotiri lighthouse.
